I made that mistake with Benson, my 10 year old St. Bernard mix when I saw the first signs of bloat (gas build-up). No history was taken and the vet started immediately with expensive treatment, suggesting euthanasia. I knew better. I knew the protocol of placing a stomach tube down his throat to release the gas. Against protocol and my instructions, HE LEFT MY DOG THERE FOR TWO HOURS UNTIL BENSON WAS IN AGONY AND HIS STOMACH HAD TWISTED. VCA Valley Animal Med Center's own response to the Better Business Bureau about this incident was the dog arrived in stable condition and didn't need treatment. Anyone whose ever had bloat before knows that MINUTES COUNT. From the onset of symptoms, the dog can be DEAD in 2-6 hours , yet there Benson lay. The Better Business Bureau has downgraded VCA Valley Animal Med's rating from A+ to B+.for their refusal to communicate on this matter. I had to pressure them for the quote and it was beyond ridiculous at $6,200 -- 100% of it they wanted immediately before treatment (remember they have had 2 hours to do this, but didn't even bother to do a quote. They wanted hours of testing that they would have already have been able to do and that's when I found out THEY NEVER REMOVED THE GAS. I pulled Benson out of there and had to drive him 80 miles to the next emergency clinic in Grand Terrace. He was in complete shock now, beling left untreated for so long, and had to be carried in by stretcher versus happy and tail wagging when he originally arrived at VCA Valley. The Animal Emergency Clinic in Grand Terrace was what I would expect from an emergency center. They rushed him right in and before I had the paperwork done the surgeon was out to tell me that they had releived the gas, had started treatment for shock (which is part of protocol and should have been done at VCA Valley) and she asked me what I wanted to do next. This major delay now created another issue -- would Benson's stomach have died because of the lack of blood getting to it. But, we had to try and surgery was performed. Unfortuntely, we had to delay surgery once again because VCA's incompetence at not starting precautionary treatment for shock meant Benson had to be stabilized before surgery. Now for the good news. Despite all that VCA Valley Animal Medical Center tried to thwart, BENSON SURVIVED AND HAS HAD A COMPLETE RECOVERY. I have reported this incident to the California Veterinary Medical Board who has started a formal investigation. This happened in April and I immediately disputed the credit card bill of nearly $500.00 I had to pay for them to release the dog. In JULY -- THE TRIED TO SNEAK THE CHARGES BACK IN AND RE-SUBMITTED THE CHARGES TO MY CREDIT CARD. The credit card company has been called and they are immediately removing the charges. The papers are ready and the lawsuit against them will be filed on Friday. Judge for yourself. Would you want to go through this. Would you want you pet to have to endure this type of horrible treatment. Incidentally, I wasn't a new client. I have been going there for years for acupunture treatments, but they couldn't even bother to look up my name in their computer. If they don't think you can or will pay, if they don't want to be bothered, YOUR ANIMAL WILL DIE UNDER THERE CARE. Grand Terrace is further out, off the 215, but your dog will get PROPERLY TREATED. The bill from Grand Terrace -- $1,825.00 --- LESS THAN A THIRD of VCA's quote."

I live in Luck and the Grantsburg location is my normal place but when the accident happened i even drove all the way to the pine city location just to see Dr. P that is how much I trust him. I miss my dog so much and we are all still in shock. But I seen how well she was cared for as well as my other dogs when using Grantsburg animal clinic. They informed me of all my options in a very heart felt way and my experience with them was just fine. Even know having to put down your 1 year old dog ia never a good experience and all of your emotions are flowing in ways of resent, blame, anger, sadness, etc. I knew and know in my heart that the staff at the clinic did exactly the right things that needed to be done for my dog and my family. I am a nurse and understand how to speak to someone who has lost a loved one. When I called to inquire about my pet, they were rude, annoyed, told me that he was in the freezer and his things were under a desk. Which I know this, but the way it was said was very tactless. They also ""lost"" his belongings that I had sent with him. A blanket that I labeled wanted back and a stuffed animal that I wanted cremated with him. Later they said both were accidently cremated with him, supposedly. When I came to get his ashes, the manager said that the doctor had a ""very tough day"" the day he put my dog to sleep and I guess forgot how I had asked him to take care of my pets belongings. Well, I had a ""tough day"" that day too. Overall, will never use this animal hospital again and suggest others not to as well."

They felt my cat's blindness was related to a hypoglycemic episode the prior night, which I had treated myself. They had no recommendations as regards his blindness. I found no evidence they examined the retinas of my suddenly blind cat. A few days later, I took my cat to see Dr. Gary Norsworthy in San Antonio who made time to see me & got us right in early on a Saturday morning. He DID examine my cat's retinas and found that my cat had retinal detachments accounting for his blindness and he diagnosed severe hypertension which had likely caused the retinal detachments. Prompt appropriate care when I went to VCA, just might have saved my cat's vision. Now my cat is likely permanently blind where proper treatment in the first 24 hours just might have saved his vision."

My little Duncan's eye was pushed out of the Socket. I was in Galveston at my daughters house. We immediately looked up the nearest ER Animal Hospital and it was VCA Calder Rd. We arrived within 30 minutes and they were waiting for us. They immediately took Duncan back and started working on his eye to see if it would go back in. They were able to place the eye and then sutured it shut for 2 weeks. I felt I was in the absolute BEST place for Duncan and his injury. Dr. Tara Prezioso was Excellent along with ALL the Staff that night. Although I was in shock and asked the same questions a few times they were so patient with me. I was explained everything in detail about the Surgery and his after care to help the eye. Tomorrow I will take him to my personal Vet in Houston and the sutures will be removed and we are praying the eye is Saved. My pets are my kids and I feel I was LUCKY to have had these WONDERFUL people help me in my desperate need for medical care! With 9 dogs between myself and my daughter I am so happy to know where they are and where to go after hours or for an Emergency. THANK YOU EVERYONE AT VCA CALDER ROAD! I hold Circle City 100% liable for my dogs death in that they did not provide me test results in a timely manner which precluded me from getting the treatment required to prevent pain and suffering. I only hope these people have some sense of remorse for directly contributing to the death of my dog!!"

The vet I go to normally I called once I got home to compare charges. The bloodwork would have cost me at my vet ethier $40 or $90 at the most for the 2 different types of bloodwork, urinalisis would have been $30. The office vist is $45! It is a corporate veterinary company and all they are out for is money. I was a vet tech for another branch long ago, and I know they try to get you for every little thing, being that I put charges in for surgerys and dentals and all that stuff in the past. now you know, so I dont' recommend taking your pet here unless you like to throw your money away when another vet just as good and charges less. The happiest moment of my life is when you brought out the first puppy, CC (Close Call). I know he almost died, he didn't want to come out naturally and it took 3 doctors to get him out. That's when we got the news about Jude having to get a C-section, it was a scary thought, but that was the only way that she and the puppies would survive. They wanted to pull 3 of his teeth out which didnt need to be pulled, they wind up pulling a wisdom tooth and 2 temporary fillings, this morning he had unbarrable pain so he went to a different dentist and they said none of his teeth should have been pulled and were fixable. Immediadent i guess just likes to pull teeth for fun. But they were just like guessing on what the problem was and was so wrong. We will never go there again. All the staff was really nice an all but i thought id just put this out here for other people to see before this dentist tries to go to town on peoples teeth for no reason"
