Woods Hole opened to Appalachian Trail hikers in 1986. The chestnut log cabin was built in 1880 by Stoney Holiday. When Tillie & Roy Wood discovered the dilapitated cabin in 1940 they lived in the home for one year later to purchase the cabin and hold onto it for their retirement days. In 2007 Tillie passed away. Her granddaughter Neville & husband Michael have continued and expanded Roy & Tillies dream. Two indoor guest rooms, massage therapy, organic gardening, and bee keeping are only a few of the expansions. Appalachian trail hikers continue to enjoy the hostel alongside guests that are looking for a unique retreat and community.

I spent many school vacations at Stowe with my Aunt Linda and Uncle Charlie Lord. I was there when it was just beginning to become popular. I loved it then and still do even though I haven't been back for a few years. Getting a bit too old to travel now. It's a wonderful place. Unfortunately, I never learned to ski. Uncle Charlie didn't seem to have the patience for me. The town still needs a regular stop light at the beginning of the mountain road. That flashing red light isn't going to do it.

The town of Stowe is beautiful and it is nice to see that not only 25 year olds ski/board and go out at night! But the skiing is certainly NOT anywhere NEAR the best. I really don't know how you could even begin ot say that. I was there for an afternoon and did the whole mountain. I went back to killington for the rest of my vacation. the lines for the gondola were very long and the lifts take forever. the terrain is mixed at best and there is very little of it. Killington, Sunday river, attitash, bretton woods....they all clean stowe's clocks for skiing. But you can't beat the town and that is why I will return this year-just with very low expectations for skiing. Oh and beware-moderate winds close the mountain. this was the case two our of three days when we should have been there-thank goodness we left and went to killington to ski!

My wife and I used Big Brother Little Brother moving back into Philadelphia. They are awesome. We were told the rate and that there was a three hour minimum. The rate was lower than those huge moving companies and the 3 hour minimum was good for us. They made sure to contact both my wife and I to confirm our moving day and the time. On the morning of the move they called to let us know where they were and how long it would take to get to us. The town we were moving from, Secane, isn't exactly the most well known community in Delaware County and yet they were there 20 minutes before the scheduled arrival time. The 2 gentleman got out of the truck putting the lifting belts on haha they meant business from the door. I tried to bring some things downstairs and was told leave it that is what we are here for. I mean just really genuinely nice guys. Before my wife and I knew it our apartment was cleaned out. When we initially moved to this place it took us 2 days at about 5 hours a day. These gentleman had the place loaded up on the truck in about an hour and 15 minutes. A 2 bedroom 2nd FLOOR apartment with a sofa, loveseat, chairs and the like in a little over an hour. After a 20 minute ride we were at the new place and in about an hour they had everything off the truck and in the new place. Let me say this I initially didnt want mover my wife had to convince me. She initially called and said that after talking to them on the phone they seemed really on the ball. They were. The invoice was clear about services performed, they insisted that we check the back of the large truck they used, their own truck by the way, to make sure everything was off. We finally got everything unpacked a week later. NOTHING BROKEN NOTHING. Glassware all in tact. Everything we left with accounted for. They are wonderful folks. They talk to you during the move as general conversation but not enough to slow them from their tasks. I recommend them to any and everyone who has to make a move whether residential or business.

When I visited New Roads for the first time, my wife and I thought we had gone to Heaven. The food was so amazing, we never wanted to leave, and we keep wanting to bring our kids. The view from the restaurant is spectacular and we loved eating there. The head chef at the restaurant is the owner's son, Major Morel, who is self-taught and a master grillman. In fact, he took us for a tour of the restaurant when we first arrived and my wife and I had drinks at the bar before sitting for dinner. The daily specials are outstanding and are often hand written and created by their son, who we were very impressed with when we met him before dinner. I want you to know that they are the most loving and generous people and having dinner at their restaurant made us feel like one of the family. In fact, if you should ever stay in New Roads, they have an amazing motel called Morel's Inn on False River, and the rooms are very, very comfortable and accommodating and there is a garden courtyard just outside of every room. Amazing and comfortable and enjoyable to stay for the week and tour the town and buy antiques. The wife of the owner has a few antique shops across Southern Louisiana and she also has a handsome collections of antiques for sale in the restaurant. My wife had a blast and I couldn't get her to sit down and have her dinner. The menu diversity is excellent, from Cajun to authentic French creole cooking. Major Morel is never far from the table, constantly checking to make sure everything is going smoothly and enjoyably. They should be Zagat rated for at least 4.5 stars or more. We loved eating here.
