ABOUT LANDMARK RECOVERY OF LOUISVILLE

Located in Louisville, Ky., not far from Interstate 264 and Louisville International Airport, Landmark Recovery of Louisville is a newly built residential substance abuse treatment facility for adults. The program typically lasts 30 days, offering medically monitored detox services on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To determine whether there is a diagnosis of chemical dependency and that Landmark is the right, clients receives a comprehensive medical and psycho-social assessment lasting three to five days. On occasion, clients with acute psychiatric conditions will be referred to another facility, where they’ll receive a more appropriate, higher level of care.

Upon intake, clients receive a physical examination and meet with a treatment team member to go over their medical history and develop an individualized treatment plan. Residents enrolled in the 30-day program receive one-on-one counseling at least twice a week as well as three hours of group therapy daily. They’ll also attend workshops focused on a variety of topics - the disease model of addiction, relapse prevention, and spirituality, to name a few - and 12-step meetings held off-site.

Additional offerings include neurofeedback, family programming, and yoga. When they complete their program, clients receive personalized aftercare and monitoring for an additional six months.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Landmark’s treatment team includes a physician, a nurse practitioner, 24-hour nursing staff, psychologists, and licensed master’s level counselors.

There is currently no information provided by the facility regarding its living arrangements and related offerings, however the 15 Rehabs.com survey respondents polled on the matter gave the center and impressively high average rating of 4.87 out of five stars for its cleanliness.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Feedback from alumni is excellent. On average, nine survey respondents polled on the matter gave average ratings of 4.33 for the staff’s level of training and experience, 4.11 for the counseling options, and 3.88 for both the exercise and leisure opportunities and the holistic offerings.

In their written commentary, alumni referred to the staff as “well trained,” “courteous,” and “great.” Alum C.A.L. especially appreciated that staff were also in recovery: “This makes conversation and advice extremely helpful, and everyone is very understanding and caring towards both patients and fellow staff.” Though he claimed that there wasn’t enough food, former client Nick was “Grateful for everything they’ve offered me.”

Despite their overall satisfaction, many considered the facility’s newness a weakness.

The four staff members surveyed by Rehabs.com to date gave the facility mostly positive feedback. The three polled on the matter gave Landmark four- and five-star ratings for its counseling options, holistic opportunities, and family inclusion.

“Medically speaking this facility is on par with others around town, but the facility is much more then that.” R.M. told Rehabs.com. “The staff work as a team to make sure all the clients are happy and engaged during the day.” Yet, as alumni and loved ones pointed out, staff also mentioned that new facility had some kinks to work out.

Synergy Recovery Center is a private women’s residential recovery home offering a unique treatment experience to the women it serves. Women will experience their healing journey in a trauma informed environment created to foster safety, dignity, and respect.

Synergy Recovery Center provides a holistic approach to recovery utilizing both evidenced based traditional practices along with innovative techniques to encompass the mind, body, and spirit. Providing gender responsive programming was an utmost priority when developing our treatment model. Located in Rogersville, Mo., 19 miles east of Springfield, Synergy Recovery Center for Women provides an upscale, gender-specific residential program for women struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health concerns. In addition, the facility offers an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for both men and women, as well as specialized educational classes and support groups. The residential center does not offer on-site detoxification services.

Before beginning treatment, clients participate in an initial behavioral and psychiatric assessment to help clinicians develop an individualized plan of care. The length of the residential program at Synergy Recovery Center for Women is designed to last between 60 and 90 days, though clients may move through the program at their own pace, from 30 days up to six months.

Synergy Recovery Center for Women utilizes a range of evidence-based treatment methods, holistic therapies, and 12-step immersion to help clients acquire and maintain sobriety. During residential treatment, clients participate in individual, family, and group therapy sessions to help clients identify and change destructive thinking patterns that may contribute to addictive behavior. The facility also holds experiential and educational classes that address a range of topics, including improving life skills, setting relationship boundaries, parenting, health education, and stress management. To address issues related to trauma, Synergy Recovery Center for Women utilizes eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EDMR). In addition, clients with co-occurring mental health concerns may attend specialized counseling groups and relevant educational sessions, as well as receive ongoing medication management.

In addition to evidence-based treatments, Synergy Recovery Center for Women offers a variety of holistic treatments designed to promote free expression, reduce stress, and improve mindfulness. The sole alum polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, Lacey, praised the facility. Out of five stars, the survey respondent offered perfect five-star ratings for the facility's counseling options, the inclusion of holistic treatments, and the treatment staff's level of experience and training. \"They really do treat your mind, body and soul, Lacey wrote. \"The counselors and resident assistance are kind, compassionate and knowledgeable.\"

Reviews from secondary sources revealed that other alumni strongly supported this glowing review. On Google reviews, 23 reviewers all awarded the facility perfect five out of five-star ratings^[1]. Many alumni also praised the facility's staff, as well as its upscale accommodations and quality of food. \"I had a really good experience here at Synergy. The staff here was absolutely wonderful,\" Bryanna, a representative reviewer, wrote.

Located less than a mile from the beach in southeastern Florida, Boca Recovery Center provides partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment with simultaneous transitional housing for individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. According to its website, the rehab center prioritizes support for young people, including college students. Detoxification services are not offered on-site, but referrals to recommended detox programs are available.

The intake process includes both psychological and medical evaluations, and treatment plans are designed to build on each client's strengths.

Two levels of intensive outpatient therapy are offered during day and evening treatment sessions. In discussing aftercare services, the facility's website emphasizes the value of connections with Florida's large recovery community.

By far, the most common aspects of Boca Recovery Center praised in Google and Facebook reviews are accommodations and staff.

Fourteen Google reviews gave an average rating of 4.7 out of five stars. Two of these, along with several on Facebook, characterized staff members as dedicated, motivating, consistent, and empathetic. One noted appreciatively that the program was founded by individuals in recovery themselves. About one third of the reviewers emphasized the facility's cleanliness and comfort. Exercise and nutrition is an important part of treatment at Rites of Passage. Residents exercise every day, which could includes riding horses, dancing, yoga, or helping with the community garden.

There are multiple different program options such as Trauma Core Program, Communication 101 Core Program, Eating Disorder Program, and Adjunct Companion Dog Training Program.

In the women's last month in the program, it's a transition phase and they begin looking for volunteer work or to find a job.

Rites of Passage operates an apartment used as a transitional living home. It's designed for clients who finished residential treatment but still want continued help.

The intensive outpatient program is similar to the residential program. Women in this program meet for five hours per day for four days a week. This program typically runs three to six months as well.

The teen outpatient program was created for teens seeking help for substance abuse, eating disorders, and/or trauma. The program is 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays along with 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

The center's website notes the treatment team includes counselors and an equine specialist.

According to the center's website, the facility is on a 40 acre Farm, and has 10 private bedrooms.

Of the three alumni polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing, two provided positive feedback, while one alum left a negative review.

Two former clients gave five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and meals and nutrition. Both also mentioned the center helped with trauma.

\"They were amazing and helped me with my eating disorder and addiction problems when no one else could,\" an alum wrote. \"I learned how to work through a lot of trauma and handle life much better.\"

The other alum, however, gave one star for treatment effectiveness, accommodations and amenities, and meals and nutrition. \"Ridiculous program, ineffective, inappropriate diagnosis, waste of time and money,\" they wrote. \"Staff are ill equipped to handle anyone professionally. Residential treatment takes place in a modern, home-like setting. Photos on the Morningside Recovery website show shared bedrooms. The facility is equipped with modern amenities including a fitness center, ping-pong table, entertainment lounge, and yoga/tai chi studio. Clients also enjoy gourmet meals during treatment.

At the time of this writing the 26 alumni polled by Rehabs.com gave an average rating four out of five stars for the facility overall, indicating positive reviews. The alumni gave the facility an average rating of 3.3 out of five stars for affordability, 4.1 stars for exercise options, and 4.4 stars for cleanliness. When asked about strengths of the facility, alumni mentioned that clients are able to live on their own, a helpful and well-rounded curriculum, and caring staff members. Staff members cited the pet policy as a particular strength of the facility, and praised the level of training and experience of their fellow staff members. “Genuine Staff program designed to help someone save their lives. The tools are their for those that wish to change,\" one anonymous staffer wrote.

When asked about weaknesses of Morningside Recovery, the reviewers said they felt the accommodations could be improved, the clients were given too much freedom, the facility does not accept all insurance policies, and that 12-step programming is not available to those who would like it.

ABOUT SAN DIEGO ADDICTION TREATMENT CENTER - RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITY FOR MEN

San Diego Addiction Treatment Center's Residential Treatment Facility For Men is one of two Forterus facilities in Southern California. Forterus facilities are a part of the American Addiction Centers’ (AAC) network. This facility, located in the Golden Hill neighborhood of central San Diego, offers detox, residential treatment, and outpatient care for adult men who are struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Aftercare services including planning, support groups, and relapse prevention are available.

The treatment process at San Diego Addiction Treatment Center - Residential Treatment Facility For Men (SDATC) begins with a comprehensive assessment by medical and behavioral health specialists. This assessment is used to develop an individualized treatment plan. Then, clients are directed to the most appropriate form of treatment. Treatment at the facility is based on individualized care and the 12-steps principles. Community and family involvement is also emphasized in the treatment process.

Clients in need of immediate medical management are admitted to the detox program where they are supervised 24/7 by biomedical technicians, in a dedicated detox unit. Once clients finish the detox program, most go to the residential program.

San Diego Addiction Treatment Center recommends a 90-day stay in residential treatment. During treatment, clients participate in individual counseling sessions. Treatment also includes group counseling and 12-step meetings. The facility uses a specialized treatment plan called Embracing Change: Recovery for Life developed specifically for Forterus facility programs. All clients leave San Diego Addiction Treatment Center with an aftercare program designed in collaboration with their treatment team. At San Diego Addiction Treatment Center, clients live in a family-style home with a full kitchen and simple shared bedrooms. There is also a table-tennis table, a garden, and a gym next door. Both individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center’s cleanliness gave it five-star ratings.

Of the nine alumni reviews submitted to Rehabs.com to date, four were positive, four negative, and one mixed.

The positive reviewers described receiving support, love, and care at the facility, and, in one-off pieces of praise, spoke highly of the education provided, the tools received, and the program’s holistic treatment offerings. “The love and care that I received along with the customized treatment plan makes me feel like I can continue my recovery for the rest of my life,” alum Derek wrote.

However, more than one reviewer concluded that the facility was more interested in money than in helping its clients. “This is a total scam, stay away,” alum M.H. wrote in a representative review: “This was suppose to be a detox center, it was a two story house with no medical professionals in house.” In addition, alum Jaime described having a lot of difficulty getting hold of staff after completing treatment.

On its official Facebook page, which the facility can manage, San Diego Addiction Treatment Center earned two perfect five-star reviews. ^[1] And on Google, the facility received an average of 3.6 out of five stars from nine reviews at the time of this writing. ^[2] Many alumni praised the educational components of the program and the staff, though two alumni noted insurance billing issues. In a representative review, alum Brian wrote: “The staff here is incredible and they work with you one on one and in a group setting.”

The positive reviewer praised the treatment program. “I think this facility is very good at what it does and it is well worth the cost,” the anonymous reviewer wrote, giving the facility four- and five-star ratings for its treatment effectiveness, its exercise and leisure provisions, its family participation, its counseling options, and its treatment for co-occurring disorders.

The negative reviewer gave the facility one out of five stars for its level of treatment effectiveness and complained about the level of family participation. Loved one S.F.T.B. wrote: “We are still paying payments for this treatment however he is worse now then when he went. I was on his list of contacts however my calls were not answered at all.”

Her House Women’s Treatment Center, formerly known as New Creations and headquartered in Ranch Cucamonga, Calif., offers a range of substance abuse services for women. In addition to on-site detoxification, the center provides residential treatment, outpatient treatment, programs for individuals with co-occurring disorders or chronic pain, and a faith-based recovery track. An affiliated rehab for men is located nearby, called His House.

According to the center’s website, the detoxification process at Her House utilizes medication to alleviate withdrawal symptoms, and clients engage in education workshops and counseling. Once stabilized, clients work with staff to create a personalized treatment plan. The duration of treatment varies, but the traditional residential program lasts four weeks.

Residential treatment at Her House consists of four phases and blends 12-step practices, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), associative awareness therapy (AAT), and other experiential therapies. In Her House’s intensive outpatient program (IOP), there are daily, three-hour sessions, which are educational and in a group format. Additional services at the facility include specialized dual diagnosis treatment, an evening family program, and continuing aftercare to ensure sobriety beyond treatment.

The facility states on its website that it is open to all faiths, but one of its specialty programs is a Christian Track, which combines 12-step philosophies with on-site pastoral care, bible study, and regular church attendance.

The center offers a 1:3 staff-to-client ratio. Staff include drug and alcohol counselors, case managers, social workers, a psychiatrist, and pastors.

According to the center’s website, residents live in one of four facilities, all of which are homelike and located in suburban neighborhoods. There are 104 beds available. Bedrooms are shared (though private rooms are available) and clients have access to fitness activities. For an additional fee physical trainers, massage therapists, acupuncture treatment, psychiatrists, physicians, and therapists are available.

The nearly two dozen alumni who were surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided mixed reviews. A rating of 4.26 out of five stars was awarded for treatment effectiveness by 19 reviewers. One alum, Darla, gave her overall experience a four-star rating, but added: “Not really designed for individual, mostly group at facility as a whole. More one on one time would have helped.”

Other alumni noted inconsistencies between the facility’s marketing materials and its actual offerings. One former client wrote to Rehabs.com that the pool and gym that were advertised did not exist, but ultimately rated their experience with five stars, saying: “Took great care of me and they really care.”

J.G. also noted a discrepancy between what she was promised and what was actually available. She wrote: “This facility was chosen for me specifically because their web page and the person at the call center talked about their pain management program and the massage therapists and physical therapists I'd have access to. This was completely false and when I arrived and started asking about that program the staff seemed truly shocked that I had been told that.”

More favorable reviews came from T.B. and Penny, who highly recommended the facility. Penny, for example, commented: “The staff and clients made me feel right at home. The program is very informative. The education I received about my disease was very good.”

The three loved ones polled by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing also provided mixed reviews. A loved one had a positive opinion of the rehab, especially regarding the aftercare provisions. “It helps people reajust ones they are done with treatment,” they said, adding: “Continues involvement is the key to success.”

Yet Lisa, a parent of a client, gave her experience the lowest possible score and referenced billing issues, rude staff, and lack of adequate treatment. She wrote: “The 3 weeks my daughter was there with her own meds she saw a therapist once and went to the psychiatrist once who actually called to tell me to get her out of there ASAP. One time did they ever even leave the facility and it was to Walmart. They could not even go on walks.” The facility responded on Rehabs.com, noting that the stated issues were uncharacteristic of the staff and facility.

Another family member, Amy, wrote of her daughter's treatment: “Her treatment was not individualized. Her trauma and codependency issues were not addressed properly.”

The office and counseling center has several meeting rooms, both large and small, for private counseling and group activities, as well as a kitchenette and a game room. The luxurious residence features spacious, shared bedrooms, large bathrooms with multiple sinks, a fully-equipped modern kitchen, comfortable common areas, and a backyard area with pool, patio, and grill.

Alumni feedback is phenomenal. Collectively, 10 of the 11 former SpringBoard clients to have completed Rehabs.com surveys as of this writing awarded the center near-perfect average ratings for its staff’s level of training and experience (4.9 stars out of five), its counseling options (4.9), and its holistic offerings (4.6). The 10 alumni also shared perfect five-star ratings for the center’s exercise and leisure opportunities, its discharge policies, and in their overall ratings.

In their written commentary, alumni credited the program with an “Incredibly caring” staff who helped them develop the tools and skills needed to thrive in sobriety. “The recovery center taught me the tools needed to save my life, become a productive member of society, and love myself once again,” wrote alum Joshua. “Hands down the best recovery center I’ve gone through.”

Several others described the program at SpringBoard as a life-changing opportunity. “SpringBoard Recovery changed my life in such a positive way,” wrote Hunter. “Saved my life!” raved Keith in yet another excellent report.

In the most detailed of the three reports, P.S. shared her appreciation for SpringBoard with Rehabs.com: “Their sincere concern, along with professional expertise, provided an experience that not only saved my family member’s life, was beyond what I could have ever expected. The team is exceptional... This program is exceptional.”

Emilio and Kelsey, the two other loved ones, found the facility “clean” and “well kept,” and its staff “Very nice” and “great.”

Laura, a staff member at SpringBoard Recovery, called the program “Excellent” and its staff “Caring, supportive.”

His House has 130 beds in houses located around the suburbs of Southern California — specifically in Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, and Colton. Pictures published on the organization’s website show family-style homes with gardens. Clients have access to a local gym, and His House also employs a nutritionist and provides facilities for its residents to learn yoga. The eight individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the center’s cleanliness gave it an average rating of 3.8 stars.

Of the 19 reviews submitted to Rehabs.com to date, 12 were positive, two mixed, and five negative. The positive reviewers repeatedly told Rehabs.com that His House had saved or dramatically changed their lives: “Im still clean. Im a walking miracle. I came into this place a hopeless junkie. I left with the necessary tools to overcome cravings and triggers,” Ryan wrote in one representative review. Several clients noted that the program was tough, but effective. The staff also won repeated praise: “They are very caring respectful people,” Caleb wrote, in another representative review.

The reviewers also awarded praise to the center’s extracurricular activities and treatment for co-occurring disorders. “They taught me how to live sober, how to deal with everyday issues , and dealing with my anxiety was a great accomplishment,” Matthew wrote.

The negative reviewers frequently criticized the physical facility, describing it as dirty or otherwise run-down: “It is passable, but not luxurious by any stretch. My biggest gripe here would be the used old mattresses and the worn blankets provided,” Greg wrote. Two reviewers also commented on the staff’s level of training: “Most of the counselors barely have associates degrees and groups were a joke,” Cameron told Rehabs.com.

A single family member review submitted to Rehabs.com to date was positive. The anonymous reviewer gave the facility two out of five stars for its holistic offerings, and four or five stars in all other evaluated treatment metrics, including its treatment effectiveness, family program, counseling options, and treatment for co-occurring disorders. “They were informative. The single staff member polled by Rehabs.com to date gave positive feedback, writing:“I believe this program has amazing potential. Support and encouragement, utilizing insurance benefits and their 12-step model received praise with reviewers giving the facility four out of five stars for its treatment effectiveness, counseling options, and treatment for co-occurring disorders. However, they added: “Weaknesses were the individualized treatment and physical activity,” and gave the center two stars for its exercise/leisure and holistic options.

Treatment costs $500 a day, $14,500 a month, or $32,500 for 90 days. The center accepts insurance, and is in-network with HealthNet MHN. Financial assistance is also available through American Healthcare Lending, covering up to 100% of the cost of treatment. Each of the three individuals polled by Rehabs.com to date on the facility’s affordability gave it five stars in this category.

Clinical Services of Rhode Island (CSRI) provides outpatient rehab and addiction treatment services that embody a “big-picture” approach to substance abuse treatment, addressing the client’s lifestyle and environmental factors contributing to the addiction. Partnerships are created with each client’s family, loved ones, and community resources during the course of treatment to lay the groundwork for aftercare. Using individualized treatment plans and research-based therapy, CSRI doesn’t just focus on the substance abuse, but uses the client’s strengths to concentrate on a sober future, and build a self-directed life.

One of three locations in Rhode Island, Clinical Services of Rhode Island (CSRI) Greenville offers a 90-day intensive outpatient program for adults struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The Greenville location also offers general outpatient, outpatient medical detox, and group therapy. To alleviate uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms, the facility provides medication, such as Suboxone and Vivitrol, during appropriate stages of detoxification.

Upon admission, clients undergo a comprehensive assessment and urine screening. As the facility is strictly outpatient, there is no physical/psychiatric assessment or blood work. Allowing clients to meet professional, family, and personal obligations, CSRI Greenville provides a flexible morning and evening schedule of sessions, each lasting approximately three hours.

Treatment is based on 12-step participation and fellowship, and clients are expected to attend 12-step meetings and perform associated “step-work.” Along with 12-step practices, the facility also holds regular peer group sessions to address a variety of issues associated with chemical dependency and recovery. In addition, there’s cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and one-on-one counseling sessions with a primary counselor.

Clients also attend psychoeducational classes and didactic groups, which are provided in a classroom setting. These classes are designed to assist individuals with post-treatment coping skills and implementing recovery strategies upon program completion.

If appropriate, the program curriculum may incorporate medication-assisted therapy, a family education and therapy program, and additional psychiatric care, based on the client’s assessed needs and situation.

ATMC uses medication tapering programs to overcome withdrawal from antidepressants, antipsychotics, benzodiazepines, alcohol, opiates, and prescription drug medications. The center’s “Detox Shoppe,” where clients will spend time five days per week, “concentrates residents’ energies” on removing toxins.

Holistic treatments include environmental medicine, biotransformation of toxic burden, heavy metal chelation, targeted neurotransmitter repair, top-shelf microbiome science including organic diets with a nutritionally ketogenic focus, nebulized glutathione, acupuncture, energy medicine, massage therapy, ionic footbaths, colonic hydrotherapy, neurotransmitter rehabilitation, orthomolecular medicine, and neurotoxin removal. These treatments work to correct imbalances in the body’s chemistry. Medication tapering is also offered.

Lab and genetic testing is conducted during treatment for clients. These results are used to determine the biochemistry and neurochemistry needs of the resident along with providing information needed to develop individualized detoxification protocol.

There are weekly outings for the residents that allow them to enjoy nearby trails and the natural beauty of Sedona.

The sole alum surveyed by Rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided a mostly positive review. The alum, Pamela, gave four out of five stars for treatment effectiveness. \"I did relapse 6 months after leaving, but I learned valuable tools to stay sober, and I am sober now,\" she wrote. \"I also learned to eat correctly, meditate, and take the right supplements. I also made lifelong friends there with other patients and staff.\"

Pamela gave five out of five stars for accommodations and amenities along with meals and nutrition.

At the time of this writing, the five individuals to leave reviews on Yelp for Alternative to Meds Center provided very mixed feedback. Of the three alumni who left reviews, two provided positive reviews, and one left negative feedback.^[1] One representative reviewer wrote: \"ATMC did a phenomenal job with getting off meds and reducing anxiety. Staff is very warm and gracious\".

Rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from this facility’s friends and family; however, the two loved ones who left reviews on Yelp provided mixed feedback.

One loved one gave a maximum five-star review, while the other provided just one star. The father of an alum wrote to Yelp that his son had an experience “beyond expectations.” He wrote: “It really is a special place with wonderful people who are truly inspiring and clearly inspired by helping and healing others.”

IOP runs Monday through Thursday and includes similar activities and therapies as the residential program on top of alumni support. Clients may stay in sober living while attending the IOP or day treatment (partial hospitalization) programs.
